If your goal is to fight and prevent gum disease and gingivitis, the interdental brush is the best way to go! Interdental brushes are used to keep your gum tissue healthy by brushing away any food debris or plaque buildup in between the teeth.
When plaque builds up along the gum line or in between your teeth, the bacteria in the plaque will cause the gum tissue to become irritated, swollen, and inflamed. You may also notice that your gums bleed more easily, especially when brushing and flossing. If you have a history of gingivitis or other gum problems, you should consider incorporating an interdental brush into your everyday oral hygiene routine.
What is an Interdental Brush?
Interdental brushes consist of a handle like that of a toothbrush and a small bristled head on the other end. These bristles are small enough to clean between the teeth. Interdental brushes can be found in the oral hygiene section of most drugstores and pharmacies. They come in an assortment of sizes to suit the gaps in your teeth. You’ll likely need one brush for the front teeth and another sized brush for the molars.
When you first begin using your interdental brush, you may notice your gums becoming tender or bleeding. Continue using your interdental brush as normal and the bleeding and tenderness will lessen as the gum tissue toughens up and becomes healthier.
