If you’re having trouble finding a way to stuff your child’s Christmas stocking this year, you may want to consider including items that can encourage oral health. Many parents turn to candy to stuff stockings, but there are a number of items that can be included in stockings that can help to improve oral health instead of damage it! These little gifts can also provide motivation for your child to care for his or her smile!
Stocking Stuffers for Oral Health
Below are a few ideas for fun, tooth-friendly stocking stuffers:
- Sugar-Free Gum – If your child has a sweet tooth (and most kids do,) you can allow him or her to indulge in sugar-free treats or gum, especially those containing Xylitol. This is because Xylitol has been shown to decrease the risk of dental cavities. And because it still tastes sweet, your child won’t feel like he or she is being deprived!
- New Toothbrush – A new toothbrush with your child’s favorite superhero, Disney princess, or video game character can be a great motivational tool when it comes to practicing good oral hygiene. If your child has outgrown these preferences, a nice, new, electric toothbrush might be a good investment!
- Fun Flavors – Lastly, if it’s a chore to get your child to brush his or her teeth, you may want to consider new toothpaste or mouthwash in a fun or silly flavor. These new flavors include things like Oreo, pickle, cupcake, and even bacon! As long as the box has the seal of the American Dental Association, the toothpaste should be just as effective as the regular brands.
