Taking Care of Your Invisalign Trays

Go The Extra Smile!

Garlock Orthodontics
March 22, 2021

Invisalign is a great way to straighten your teeth without having to wear those bulky metal braces. Although Invisalign is not suitable for everyone, your dentist might recommend them, and there are a few things you’ll have to ensure during the treatment.

Following are some ways you should take care of your Invisalign trays:

  • Clean Them Regularly: Cleaning your Invisalign trays is the most important step in taking care of them. Make a routine to clean them in the mornings and evenings when you brush your teeth. You can use toothpaste and a soft toothbrush to gently scrub both of the aligners. This will remove the bacteria that can otherwise damage your teeth or even impact your health.
  • Rinse Your Aligners Every Time You Remove Them: The Invisalign trays can quickly become the breeding ground of bacteria. To prevent this from happening, always rinse them before placing them in their case. Even when youโ€™re not home, try to find a sink or drinking fountain before taking them out.
  • Do Not Eat With Your Aligners In: Invisalign trays are very convenient, as you can remove them whenever you need to โ€“ take advantage of this benefit. Whenever you eat or drink something, make sure to remove them beforehand. Otherwise, you can accidentally stain or damage them. The only thing you can consume while wearing your aligners is water.

If you’re planning on getting Invisalign or want to know if you are a candidate, visit Garlock Orthodontics for a consultation now.

Proper Cleaning Techniques

When it comes to keeping your Invisalign trays clean, it's important to use the proper techniques. Avoid using toothpaste or harsh chemicals, as they can damage the trays. Instead, gently brush them with a soft-bristled toothbrush and rinse them with lukewarm water. Remember to clean your trays at least twice a day to prevent bacteria buildup.

Additionally, soaking your trays in a specialized cleaning solution once a week can help keep them clear and odor-free. Be sure to follow the instructions provided by your dentist or Invisalign provider for the best results. By properly cleaning your trays, you can ensure they remain in good condition throughout your treatment.

Schedule Regular Check-Ups

Along with proper care at home, it's also essential to schedule regular check-ups with your dentist or orthodontist. They can monitor your progress, make any necessary adjustments to your treatment plan, and ensure that your trays fit correctly. These appointments are crucial for the success of your Invisalign treatment and can help prevent any issues from arising.

Your dentist can also provide guidance on how to care for your trays properly and address any concerns you may have. By staying on top of your check-ups, you can ensure that your treatment stays on track and achieve the smile you desire.
